By a powerful Jacobite politician (1698-1731); notorious libertine and rake, profligate, and alcoholic. 1st edition rare; 2nd edition exceptionally scarce. The authorship though traditional (the English Short Title Catalogue appears to base its ascription on the use of the pseudonym “an English Merchant”) is questionable as Wharton appears to have had no experience of Jamaica or Jamaicans, and by 1727 had long fled the City due to his extensive debts.
