Narrative of the Insurrection and Rebellion in the Island of Grenada from the
Commencement to the Conclusion. Introduced with a Summary Discourse on the
Excellence of the British Constitution. (Bridgetown: Printed at Mr Gilbert
Ripnel in the Bay, Between the Two Bridges) 49,14 pages 4to pamph, 1798. Descriptive.
Colonial administration. Public order. Fedon Rebellion, 1795. Grenada.
Claims to be an eyewitness account; the discourse on the British Constitution
is really a lament that people of French heritage did not appreciate the
favours and privileges granted to them under it, but allowed themselves to be
deluded and inflamed by ‘satanical secret emissaries’ and to ‘light up the
destructive flames of rebellion’; the Rebellion is then related with great
spirit complete with tales of horror, heroism, narrow escapes, and battles
between the rebels and the soldiers, and other events, until the quelling of
the rebellion and the execution of some found guilty of high treason. Exceptionally
scarce. BL, Ha.S, Sab 95627.
