Reprinted from “The Independent Whig” of 15 December 1816. By an ex-clerk in the Navy Victualling and Pay Office; one of the defendants in the Stock Exchange Fraud trial in England in 1814 along with Thomas, Lord Cochrane and his uncle, Andrew Cochrane Johnstone, one time Governor of Dominica and others. This pamphlet was no doubt an attempt by Butt to flush out Johnstone after he (Johnstone) without facing trial, fled to the West Indies having ruined Butt and his own nephew. Butt followed him there, but by this time (1816) Johnstone's estates in Dominica had been sold from underneath him for previous debts. This pamphlet may well be a straight reprint or adaptation of Archibald Gloster, “A Plain Narrative of Some Recent Facts . . .” See: AC Johnstone.  My.R
